Run your own bridge between your phone and your home PC

Run the app at home Persona Companion talks to your local PC over your LAN out of the box — voice, chat, images, all of it.

Add a tiny VPS in the middle A small Linux VPS becomes the bridge. Your home PC opens an outbound connection to it — no inbound port on your house, no router holes.

Use Persona from anywhere Phone ↔ VPS ↔ home. Chat and voice (including any local TTS you run) reach you on cell data, hotel WiFi, in the car — same private setup, password-protected.

Heads up — advanced setup. This is the full DIY path: command line, SSH, certificates, a Python service that stays running on your home PC. Not for the faint of heart. If you just want Persona on your phone at home, the APK works out of the box — skip this whole section.

What you'll need

Claude Code CLI

Anthropic's terminal client — the "brain" the bridge injects your messages into. Requires an Anthropic API key (you pay Anthropic directly per use). Or swap in Ollama / another local CLI if you'd rather keep it free.

A Linux VPS

The middleman between your phone and your home PC. Tiny — relay traffic is text and short audio clips. Contabo's entry tier is plenty (see the CTA below). You set up your own domain and certificate.

Chatterbox TTS (optional)

For high-quality voice output (vs the default Android voice). Runs on your home PC; a GPU helps but isn't strictly required. Without it, Persona uses your phone's built-in TTS.

A home PC, always on

Runs the Python bridge process that connects out to your VPS and forwards messages to Claude (or whatever CLI you wired). Sleeps = no answers when you're away.

Pollinations BYOP (optional)

For inline image generation. Your account, your spend. Without it, no images — chat and voice still work fine.

Patience for the wiring

DNS, nginx, certbot, systemd, password files, port forwarding (or rather, NOT port-forwarding — the bridge is outbound only). Plan a quiet afternoon.

Only if you want to use Persona away from home — nothing to set up if you're only on the couch.

The VPS is the only piece that costs money on its own. We use Contabo — their entry Cloud VPS runs about $5 a month^* and comes with 4 vCPUs, 8 GB of RAM and 75 GB NVMe (or 150 GB SSD). The bridge uses a tiny fraction of that, so even the smallest plan is plenty.
